Sultana Kamal is a popular Bangladeshi lawyer, public figure, and former adviser of the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh. She is widely known as the Executive Director of Ain of Salish Kendra, a civil right organization. Sultana is also known for her mother Sufia Kamal, a prominent poet of Bangladesh. Sultana Kamal Early Life & Education:
Sultana Kamal was born in 1950, in Dhaka to parents Kamal Uddin Ahmed and Sufia Kamal. Her mother Sufia Kamal was a prominent poet and political activist in Bangladesh, a participant in the Bangladesh Liberation War as well.
Kamal studied at Leela Nagh’s Nari Shikhkha Mondir. Then she completed SSC at Azimpur Girls’ High School. Then she was admitted into Holly Cross College and completed HSC. Sultana received a masters degree from the University of Dhaka in 1971. In 1978, she completed a Bachelor of Law from the same university.
Sultana also received a Masters in Development Studies, specializing in Women and Development from the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Hague, Netherlands.
Sultana Kamal Career:
Sultana Kamal kicked off her career journey as a teacher at the Music College. Then she served in a Tabacco Company. In 1971, she also joined the Mukti Bahini and along with others launched the Bangladesh Field Hospital in Agartala for the freedom fighters.
Kamal was appointed as an Advisor to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh in 2006 amid the crisis situation in the country. Later she with 3 other advisors resigned from the post.
