Nusrat Jahan Rafi is a Bangladeshi madrasa student who brutally murdered by set on fire when she went to the Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa to sit for the exam. Her murder placed the headline in the national newspaper and the case gets the highest priority in the country. In this case, all 16 accused including sacked madrasa principal Siraj Ud Doula were awarded the death penalty.
Nusrat Jahan Rafi Early Life & Education:
Nusrat Jahan Rafi was born in 2000, in Feni, Bangladesh to parents AKM Musa Manik and Shirina Akter. She a brother named Mahmudul Hasan Noman who is the plaintiff of Rafi’s murder case. Nusrat studied at Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa and was an Alim examinee.
Nusrat Murder:
Nusrat Jahan Rafi was a madrasa student who sexually harassed by sacked madrasa principal Siraj Ud Doula on March 27, 2019. Following the incident, her mother Shirina Akter filed a case against the accused principal and later he was arrested and sent to jail.
Being aggrieved the accused principal wanted to take revenge on Nusrat and her family subsequently Nusrat was set on fire when she went to madrasa set to sit for the exam. She died four days later at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on April 10, 2019, as she suffered burns over 80% of her body. Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina stated that the responsible individuals would be prosecuted.
Sixteen individuals including Siraj Ud Doula and two politicians were charged on May 29, 2019, for murdering Nusrat. On October 24, 2019, The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Feni gives the death penalty to all accused and fined Tk 1 lakh each.
