He is the son of actors Alejandro Bichir and Maricruz Najera. He has two brothers namely Odiseo and Bruno, they are also actors. Demian Bichir attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.

In 2011, Bichir builds up a relationship with Canadian model Stefanie Sherk and they were together until the death of Stefanie Sherk on April 25, 2019.
